POODWADDLE
the search engine home page you can customize
Welcome to Poodwaddle.com. This website is designed to be your custom home page with whatever content you wish to add. You can add images, text, buttons, clocks, games, calculators, and many more features. We are always adding to the list of content and appreciate any suggestions for new objects.
The Home Page
The default Home Page contains a search engine, clock, calendar, notepad, and advanced search form. You may add, delete and edit these however you wish. Your preferences are stored on you computer which means you will never have to sign up or log in. Every time you visit poodwaddle.com you preferences will appear.Home Page Editor
The Editor page resembles the Home Page but includes properties and controls along the left side for the editing of each object. The objects are displayed in the stage on the right. Each objects position or anchor point is displayed with a cross-hairs. When the object is selected the anchor point will also display a box around the cross-hairs.
Adding and Deleting
The + and - buttons allow you to add and delete objects to the stage. When you add an object the source popout box will appear. Select a type of object or enter the name or url in the SOURCE property.Order
The LAYER property sets the order objects are displayed in. The highest object LAYER appears above objects with lower LAYER values. You can change their position with the up and down arrow.Properties
Each object has properties for its position, size, and other features. Not all properties apply to all objects. The URL property only effects objects which require a link (such as buttons). URL, CAPTION, and COLOR properties only effects objects designed specifically to accept them. Don't confuse SOURCE and URL. SOURCE is the path and name of the object. If the SOURCE is a button then the URL property sets the destination link. X and Y properties set the position of the object. SIZE properties are set in percent, not pixels.Refreshing
There are times in using the Home Page Editor in which an object does not display as intended or set. Click REFRESH to redraw the stage and update all objects.Adding Images
You can add any image to your site by simply typing its url (file path) into the SOURCE property. Enter the entire url in this format: http://www.sitename.com/image.jpg The image must reside online, not on your local computer and be a jpg, gif, or png format. For images you can set position, size, angle, and alpha properties. URL, caption, and Color properties are unavailable.Adding Videos
Videos hosted by YouTube and others can be embedded in your home page. YouTube provides an embed code for each video which contains the url of the video. Enter this url (only the url) into the SOURCE property. It may take some time for the video to appear if you have a slow Internet connection.Deleting the Bug
As you can read above, all the objects of the Home Page can be deleted or edited, even the bug. Each object is represented on the Editor page by a crosshairs. The bugs crosshairs is set in the upper left of the screen. If you click on this crosshairs a square will appear around it to indicate that it is the selected object and the Source property will read "pet1". To delete the bug simply click the delete button (marked with a minus - sign). When you return to the Home page the bug will be gone.Flash Games
Flash games may work on your home page. Many games are not designed to be embedded and wont operate correctly. We have created several game menus which you may embed and use to link to our games.
OTHER PROGRAMS
Games
Poodwaddle offers a collection of games which you may play on our site, or show on your own site, blog, or even MySpace profile. (Read below for instructions on embedding our Flash programs)Youtube TV programs
We have also created a page highlighting some of the most entertaining and informative youtube videos in an entertaining format. To switch channels (videos) drag the channel dial clockwise or counterclockwise. Besides the 12 channels shown with the dial, others can be viewed from the numbered list at the top of the page. More are added every week or so. These TV's are also available for embedding on your own site, blog, or social network profile (see below).Clocks
Poodwaddle is most proud of our clock programs. We have created statistical counters which display everything from world population and causes of death to global warming and abortion. As with all our programs, these are presented free and may be easily embedded on your own site.Tools and Calculators
We have created many useful tools - Calculators for many mathematical problems, utilities for creating CSS codes, and even a simple email app.Health
Many of our programs are designed for health concerns. Our Virtual Age Program has become quite popular. We have recently added an elegant little program to calculate Body Mass Index (a useful reference for dieters and anyone concerned with health). And we are working on more...FREE for other sites
As mentioned previously, most of our programs are available free for any other site to embed on its own pages. We do this in the simplist way. We provide codes to embed the programs without requiring download. This practice of "inline linking" is most often condemned as bandwidth theft, hotlinking, or leaching since it enables one site to display the property of another and drain that others bandwidth. I encourage this with the content at poodwaddle.com. I host the files, you display it however you wish. I do ask, and think it is very resonable, that you credit poodwaddle.com with a link somewhere on the page. This needn't be directly below the program as I often show in the provided code. Use your judgement to decide what is fair. The basic form of the embedding code is shown here:
You may alter many parts of this embedding code. The width and height properties can be adjusted to enlarge or shrink the program. You should always adjust the bgcolor property to match the background color of your page. Alternately, you may replace the bgcolor code with wmode="transparent". By setting the mode to transparent any undrawn part of the program will display whatever content is behind.
Some online services such as Yahoo Groups do not support the embed tag and will therefore not show any of poodwaddle programs. For most of these I know of no workaround. Most blogs do, however, support the embedding of media content. Blog authoring services and software often require that when you add html tags such as this embed code, you must specify that it should be desplayed as code and not written literally. If you have any difficulties embedding any of our programs, drop us an email.
